In any music track or musical composition the beat is the pulse of the rhythm with percussive atonal sounds.

The beat is an important and characteristically style-forming element especially in rock and pop music. The term beat-free refers to a production where the rhythm is created only by the interplay between the melody and the instruments, as mostly seen in classical music.
