A mood generally describes an emotional state of mind. Music can be used to create, support or enhance certain moods, as is particularly common in movies (film music).
In music, a mood can also refer to the mood of an instrument, which means the exact tuning of the individual intervals between notes. The dominating mood in the tradition of music is the tempered tuning that splits one octave in 12 similar intervals and was initially used by J.S. Bach. Other mood models are the pentatonic in jazz music or numerous Asian inter-moods resulting from musical tradition as well as from the physical characteristics of the instruments. For example, the typical mood of Balinese gamelan music comes from the specific vibration of metal.
